A little blog about being a triathlon coach. Here you'll find a little diary about my activities as a coach, the performances of the people I work with and my thoughts and opinions on what makes athletes faster for longer.

Inspire A Generation

AndyBby AndyBAug 13th 2012
Wow! What a fortnight that was. The Olympics have now completed their temporary stay in London and will move onto Rio in four years time. Over the last couple of weeks there have been some truly outstanding performances from both TeamGB athletes and those from around the world from Mo Farah's double gold, Jess Ennis and her 2-day epic, David Rudisha's stunning 800m time trial, Nicola Adams wining the first women's boxing gold ever, Ali and Johnny Brownlee and many, many others; the Olympics has the capacity for many to achieve dreams and to create many more.

When the London Bid was presented to the IOC back in 2005 in focussed very heavily on providing a legacy (If you have a spare 45 minutes you can watch the presentation here you may need to watch it in 'stand alone media player'). I can remember very clearly the video sections you can see from 34:20. A young boy becoming a sprinter, a girl becoming a gymnast and another becoming a swimmer all as a result of being inspired by the Olympic games. It is often commented that this legacy is the reason London won the bid for the games and is now, after the games have finished, that the next challenge begins. The athletes have stepped up to the mark, they have shown it is possible what others thought impossible, they have inspired many and now it is up to us as sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, parents, coaches, teachers, friends to take the next step. To create our own dreams and to share other peoples, believe in them, make them reality and to make sure the Olympics really does inspire a generation! So... what do you dare to dream?

Finally, for those who are feeling a little down it is all over, remember the Paralympics starts on August 29 so plenty more inspiration for this generation and the next!
