My First Aquathon

I started this week feeling tired so I decided to skip the morning swim, with the intentions of maybe heading after work (hummÂ... well maybe). During work there was texts flying round about the aquathon happening in Howth 1000mtr swim and 5k run, the 1000mtr swim interested me, the run didn't but you cant have it all your own way, also as i had sent my trisuit to get the zip fixed, this means it would be the first ever appearance in public of the two-z, my two piece tri-suit that i had hoped to be wearing in Galway! Trying it on before i left the house was not flattering and when the rest seen it they confirmed that too. Picture all the elites wearing their two-piece tri-suit and looking good in them! Then you have me! I looked like Davitt for little Britain.

Sure what can you do (suck it in for 40minutes, thatÂ's what you can do!) . When we got there we all signed up for the long course one and got ourselves wet suited up. It felt funny going into transition with nothing more than a pair of runners. Picked my spot and headed up to the start area where we met the first guys coming out of the water, very serious indeed, none of them would answer me when i asked them if the water was cold! It wasnÂ't long before we were bobbing in the water awaiting the starting horn, Its was a shortened swim due to the water at the beach being very choppy so id say we swam 600mtrs at very most, i came out of the water in the top 5 places and i was very surprised because i couldnÂ't even see the 3 buoy to swim to.
My First Aquathon
I must have wasted about 30 seconds trying to spot it. There was about a 400mtrs run to transition where i got passed by about 5 or 6 people, none of them club mates so it was good to see i did a good swim. Into transition and right behind me was Paul Brod ready to be unleashed! He had chased me down within the 1st half a k and didnÂ't waste time chatting,

He was on fire! Most of my races are the same, good swim and the rest im looking over my shoulder to see who is next to pass me, Jeremy didnÂ't disappoint at around the 2k mark,

then Glenn at the 3k mark and then Mono,

But here is where this man stands head and shoulders above the rest, He passed me but kept at me to keep with him, encouraging me every step, it was great because I had picked up the pace and ran the 2 loop 1 minute quicker than the 1st loop so fair play Mono, top man, i wonder can i get him to do every race with me! Finished 26 out of about 60 odd so not to bad results below

We all got changed and headed into the clubhouse to see the prize giving, there was also spot prizes too and guess what!!! I won one, well two actually but i didnÂ't /couldnÂ't find the other ticket quick enough! I picked up some much need bike cleaning equipment so happy days! Barbie won a prize as well; She picked up a bike service worth 85 blips!
My First Aquathon
Before we left we even got a meal voucher for Beshoffs fish and chips! Off we headed for some much-deserved nosebag and an oil chinwag! Not a bad Monday after all!
Tuesday was rest day so brought Ben up to Athletics and walked the dog and even seen Paul Mc grunting up the road on one of his runs.
Wednesday i missed the morning swim session AGAIN! But we were meeting for a sea swim before running. We even managed to drag Paula who was about to go with the early group! The water was choppy as fook but its good training to get in! We got a little 700-ish mtrs stop start swim in. we bailed into Jeremy van to shelter from the wind to get changed much to the delight of Barbie who had to wait on us this time!
2min - 3min - 4min - 3min - 2min of fartlek was on the cards starting at the bottom of the hill. Was a good session and i managed to feel good while doing it. I normally die doing fartlek especially heading up the hill! Kev was running like a mad man tonight so im gonna go out on a limb here and say he was on a promise from his misses and he just wanted the session to finish!
I had to head into work early today and i was still in work at 9pm so you can guess that i did rock all! I even missed dinner so i was going to be in a bad shape for swimming in the morning!
Messy session today with a lot of stop/ starting in the pool. Just had no spark, no pace and was tired near the end of every set! Bit of a write off session to be honest! Working late again this evening so i missed Kettlebells, must try to get back into it with the kettlebells, even though i have a kettlebells at home it doesnÂ't make me want to do a set by myself, its kind of like the Turbo trainer that ive only used it twice at home! I think i prefer to hang out around the house instead of taking up the sitting floor space while working out!
Saturday we had the Clubs 1st triathlon and it was a complete success, everyone enjoyed themselves and Dinny even managed the finish in 4th place! The worst thing that anyone could have given me that day was a megaphone to cheer people on as they came to the finish line!
Saturday evening I had a few pints with a few Fingal Tri heads in Skerries, I had to go into work on Sunday so it was a write off for training!
Not the best weeks training coming up to the Olympic triathlon in athy on Saturday but as long as I beat Tony I will be happy!
