Into the unknown ~ what is ahead?
by DragonRunnerFeb 26th 2012
So the last few weeks have seen the start of back to back training program, with the start of training for my second attempt at Ironman Wales and also the Speedo Eton 10k swim. The second is in May so only have to do this for ten weeks of getting in the extra swim session.
Well what has happen over the last few weeks, I think my weakest area should be where I start. There is one common theme with the run sessions, which is they are not getting any easier, I really have to dig deep. Since the Love Run in Cardiff a few weeks ago, the focus of these sessions has changed slightly. I am trying to develop some speed, a strange area for myself. The other is probably one that I need to work on with the bike as well. Cadence, how fast I am turn my feet over. So going it into the Llanelli Half Marathon next week with a different approach to previous half's.
As I suggested above I have a bad habit of pushing in too higher gear, I need to spin more. Managed a medium distance ride this week which also included another area that was missed out last year, hills. But this is another area that I seem to go backwards with as soon as I get on to them. May also look into if there is anything I could do with gearing.
The final discipline is the one that I am doubling up on, and also the swim is by far the strongest. The end of this week was a 2k time trial, which I was more than happy to finish with a sub 38 minute, now need to get into some openwater so that I can get use to the water temperture.
The hardest area for me at present is my mind, I am getting stress out over the wait for some tests which could have a big impact on the future. I am feeling it quite a bit, and that's with all the exercise. However two areas that I wish to develop into my training is some stretching this along with some resistance training. However it may be best to wait and speak to my specialist at the next appointment to make sure both are suitable.
So what has the next few weeks got instore, well there are two runs. The Llanelli Half Marathon and the Sports Relief Run a few weeks later. Both of which are going to on similar courses.
The next few weeks will also be a change in what I will be doing for the rest of my life.
