I Live with a Neuromuscular / Spinal Condition and plan to 'Challenging My Limits' 2017 my goal was the Lake Zurich 26km Marathon Swim.

Nos Galan Races ~ the road begins

So here it is the new year, is 2012 going to be the year that I will complete the Ironman, my first attempt in 2011 did not go to plan after have a few medical problems which came to a head about 6 weeks prior to the race ~ the problems I was encountering were due to Muscular Dystrophy. Even thou it is only mild it there and it is something that I have to get around. Not want to let this get in the way I have put together a program that will hopefully get me to the Esplanade in Tenby this September.

My year really started last night with the Nos Galan Race, this is an event that is now in it's 53rd year and take place every New Years Eve in Mountain Ash which is only an hours drive from home. It is a 5k (3 laps) course around the town. Overall I was happy with how it went, set off my own pace and completed the run in 36 minutes which for me a about right.

So I have at the moment a number of different events already planned in the run up to IM Wales. Starting with the Love Run (Cardiff) in Feb and the Llanelli Half Marathon in March.

May will see the first "A" Race of the year with the Eton 10k Swim, which is to be held in the Olympic Rowing Venue. From there I will go onto the Full Long Course Weekend in Tenby (there will be a few visits to the town in preparation), followed by the UK 70.3 and Cotswold 113.

This is a busy / heavy period but it will give me a chance to evaluate where I am and hopefully give me a chance to put things right if needed. There will more than likely be other smaller/ local race along the way.

So this is my goals for 2012 and as with the Ironman Mantra "Anything is Possible" (what will be my manta) the next 9 months will be pushing myself to the limits. I am also looking at a few events after the IM so bring back down to lower level of training.

9th June - Long Course Bike (112 miles) (A)
10th June - Long Course Marathon
17th June - IMUK 70.3 Triathlon
24th June - Cotswold 113 Triathlon


23rd Sept - Swansea 10k Run
14th Oct - Cardiff Half Marathon

I'll see you in Tenby (ok maybe) as Im racing there again next year.

My only comment is try to do loads of biking, including lots of hills so you are as comfortable as possible with them.
