Not A Good Start to the Year

DragonRunnerby DragonRunnerApr 6th 2016
The first few months of 2016 have not been good, towards to the end of last year my life was turned upside down. I had not realised how much my life was getting the better of me and the plans to go back to Kalmar was going to be affected.

In a nutshell I have become so depressed that not only I could not face work, but going into any crowds was taking its toll on me. Which is a reason that there have not been any other posts of this blogs.

After really pushing myself, I have to be honest with myself I am not cured. Can anyone really be cured of depression, what I have become is better at coping with areas of my life that I need to pay attention to.

One big event that has really helped me turn around my feelings was the completion of the Bath Half Marathon. The last three years I have pulled out of the event for various reasons, not of which are now true. I was never really a fast runner and this has gone backwards, but the aim was to finish. This I achieved not far in front of the Broom Wagon but finished I did.

So many ghosts were put to bed that day, the rest of the year is going to be good - I have a positive feeling now.

The following weekend was the Sport Relief events, and this time i was up for the 5k swim. So with 200 lengths of the pool ahead I was going to give this 5k target a good going. So i finished well within the two hour time limit I had given myself, and I have to say I am more than pleased with the weeks work.

To add to the good feelings in the space of 2 weeks from Bath I was taking on my second half marathon. This time it was the World Half Marathon which was been held in Cardiff which is just an hours drive from me. So been on the same start line as Olympic champion Mo Farrah and a world class field, I was about 30 thousand people back in the field.

The forecasted bad weather hit the course at the point I was approaching mile 3. I can say that I have not run in conditions like that before, it was if I was running up a river. I was determined that I was going to finish this event and was glad I carried on as the weather did break for the better.

Anyway after a few more hours and under the time from Bath by a good 20 minutes I was crossing the finish line of the World Half Marathon.

So March this year I have completed two half marathons and a 5k pool swim, all three that at some point in January I though would not be possible. So with these success and the triathlon coaching I am doing it has been a good month.

With all that has happened to me over the last few months I have decide that I am going to try and raise some funds for 'The Mind Charity' as their resources have help me get were I am.

Thank you to all that have supported me over the last few months I look forward to see you at either the Llanelli SprintTriathlon or the Arctic One Eton Paratriathlon in May which are the next events on my calendar - but I will be back here before then.
