Pride ~ In the name of life

Early morning, March 4, the sun shines out on a Llanelli sky (U2 In the name of love), I wish, wind and rain more like it. However the rain did go away for most of the run. This is my first long run in a while, not probably the best preparation, but changing tactics for this year, so my run training is taking a different format, and as the training plan is going I am up on the amount of running that I should have done by now, so its a bonus.

So joining the two and half thousand runners at the start on the Millennium Coastal Path, Llanelli. This is my first time at this event. For the first 9 miles I was up on my plan, which I am happy about, but at about the 10 mile mark I started to hit problems with my legs and getting them to move. I am not fast but for the last section of the course I there was a need to dig deep into the reserves to get myself around. Looking back overall fairly happy with the way today has gone.

That where there title comes in ~ it was "Pride" in not getting to the finish line and trying to lead as normal life as I can.

On reflection I have two areas that I need to look at over the next few weeks, nutrition and endurance. I realism that my long term goal for 2012 is a long way off at present, and there way it is looking at present I am going to need a very good day to reach it. So in the words of another song, "there always going to be another mountain", "Ain't about how fast I get there", "Ain't about what's waiting on the other side", "It's the climb" So I am base camp, the trek to first base has been completed, overall I am about 60% happy with how I got there.

Nutrition is one area that at present is concerning me, specially when you work out how many calories will be need to the day, so will be looking for some information on this so I can get it to be a habit rather than having to think about it.

Endurance is the other area of concern and I think the only way to get this right is to mix the two different training sets up over the next few weeks.

Now what else has happened this week. Well I am running two different programme back to back and actually the Swim training is going well, on the straight distance session I am finishing well within the targets, which will make for an interesting swim in Dorney Lake in May.

Not done much on the bike this week, and what I have done is mainly spin session where I have introduce single legs spin in an attempt to build up on the weaker of the legs and try to get some sort of lift.

As for other areas, mind is still going over the various options in front of me, so I really cannot make any long term goals until concern people make their mind up, don't think speed is one of their strengths.

Next up for me is the Sports Relief Run in a few week time.
