A JOURNEY THROUGH ENDURANCE
A JOURNEY THROUGH ENDURANCE
Going long distance, has no boundaries whatsoever. The limits of how far a human being can go as opposed to how fast haven┤t even been glimpsed! -Kirk Johnson

Am I crazy or is it determination?

TRAIN YOUR BODY AND YOU WILL HAVE A POWERHOUSE,
TRAIN YOUR MIND AND YOU WILL CONQUER YOUR BODY!

This past weekend any chance of trainning outdoors was shot! Saturdays schedule called for a 5hr ride and Sunday a 3hr run. As friday┬┤s hrs passed the weather got crappier and crappier! We got hit with a tropical storm! Today is wednesday and we still have storm weather.

I had two choices, ditch training, or do my workout indoors. I chose the latter. I headed for the gym early in the morning with a cooler and some apples. Had my head set for my 5hr ride. I sat on the back of the spinning room and started my ride. At about 8am the spinning instructor was a no show, so I was asked to teach the class. It helped quite a bit to do the first part of my trainning while teaching and getting paid for it! I just had keep my heart rate in check to make sure I wasn┬┤t over doing it. I need to have enough energy left for the coming hours. Time passed by, changed shirts a couple of times, but by 3 and a half hours my glutes were screaming! I quit at 3:45minutes! I guess I am used to a smaller saddle! Better that than no trainning I suppose.

Sunday was the same deal! I tried waiting to see if it would let up but no deal! No training ended up happening on Sunday! I marched straight to the gym at noon on Monday. Got to the treadmill, had my water bottles, accelgels and my Ipod. I started watching Running on the Sun! A movie about the Badwater Ultramarathon 135 miles in the Death Valley Desert. It only lasted 1.5hrs! So the last 1.5hrs was all music! I had no idea it was going to be this hard at the end! I guess running on the same surface and no change in the inclination level hits the legs in a whole different way! By the last 20mins of the run my calves were hurting bad! I was determined to finish my run! I finished and got off the treadmill almost limping! I stretched a little, showered and changed. Got my Crocs on and left for a restfull afternoon at home. When I got out of my car! Ouch! Stiffness, calf pain and the arch of my left foot were in some pain! Ice for the rest of the afternoon.
I trully hope I don┬┤t have to do another long run on the treadmill. If so, I will have to mix in some changes, inclination and speed to see if this would make it easier on the calves! All in all, I am pleased to have done my run. I will place this trainning in the bag of tricks to take for Ironman Florida. Whenever my head starts to weaken I will pull this run out of my bag and remind me, "If I was able to run 3hrs on the treadmill, I can finish this marathon!".
Did I overdo it? Am I crazy? or is this what we need as athletes to acomplish our goals? Kind of like, when life throws out lemons make lemonade? I decided to make it a positive thing for me! I believe in the following
TRAIN YOUR BODY AND YOU WILL HAVE A POWERHOUSE,
TRAIN YOUR MIND AND YOU WILL CONQUER YOUR BODY!
Kudos!
