Planning for the big day.

JonClarkby JonClarkOct 6th 2013
In approximately 32 weeks on 17/05/14 I will be taking part in my first Ironman Triathlon in Lanzarote, Spain.

The race starts at 07:00 and the distances I will be completing on the day will be the following:

- 2.4 mile open water sea swim (09:20 cut off)
- 112 mile ride across mountainous terrain (18:30 cut off)
- 26.2 mile run. (midnight cut off)

The race begins at 07:00 and all legs have to be completed by midnight the same day. I have attached the individual race maps and profiles to the post as photos below.

As my previous endeavours go, I have completed all distances individually, having finished three marathons; seven half marathons; a 112 mile sportive and a 5 km pool swim.

I will be following a training regime from mid Dec-13 until mid May-14, which involves getting my body prepared physically and mentally for taking on such a big race. In the mean time, I am focusing on improving my core strength, cardiovascular fitness and freestyle swimming ability.

This blog is dedicated to my training journey and any information I collect enabling me to become a more efficient athlete. I will aim to post as regularly as possible, so please check back soon to see how my training is progressing.
