Tin Man
Making a decision whether to target and Ironman in 2010 at the ripe old age of 42!

Sterted tri last year just before I was 40, probably as a bit of a mid life crisis.

Thought I would use this to set out my thoughts, plans and general feelings.

Pimped my ride!

After four years of riding my current bike (a modest Scott Speedster) I took the decision to upgrade the complete Groupset. I did sconsider purchasing a new bike but the wife had other ideas and "invested in carpets and bedroom furniotuire".

So I upgraded the old mix of Tiagra/Sora/Own brand set into a nice shiny Shimano 105 Compact. I purchased the set from an on-line shop called shiny bikes, (www.shinybikes.com) and can only compliment them on speed and quality of service.

Being a novive I then has JE James Cycles fit the kit for a modest cost. Once again always found JE James to be brilliant in terms of cost and service (www.jejamescycles.co.uk).

So the new kit is fitted (with a new bike CATEYE Strada computer) and it looks the part. I know it isnt the most aerodynamic or carbon of bikes but I dont have a carbon fibre body to justify the investment.

The pedalling seems a lot smoother, the gear changes cleaner and with new yellow handlebar tape it is a real pleasure to get on the turbo and churn out those training miles!

I was nervous when I enterred the Outlaw but at the moment training is going really well!
