My First Ironman
I decided to do the 2013 Ironman Louisville as my first long course race. This blog serves as my diary to capture training highlights and struggles along the way. Race day is 25 Aug 13.

Based on my experience at the half-iron distance and borrowing liberally from Don Fink's "Be Iron Fit", I have developed a 30 week training program to get me to Louisville.

Week 28 - 5 Aug

Mojorad2009by Mojorad2009Aug 5th 2013
Mon - rest day
Tues - 2500 yd swim, put off run until after work; 4 mi run
Wed - 75 min spin; 6 mi run after work
Thurs - 4000 yd swim non-stop; 3 mi run
Fri - 75 min spin (may have hurt my back); ended up with 24 hour flu-like bug
Sat - resting after fever, will re-evaluate tomorrow
Sun - 40 mi/10 mi brick; still a little weak from Fri but finished the brick in 3:30

Feeling guilty about time away from kids for training. Have said 'not now' to 'will you play with me' too many times this summer. I think that is the hardest part -- seeing how it impacts the kids. Kids have mentioned to Kristin that they are ready for this to be done. Trying to get them through the next two weeks.

Experiencing pain at work on Fri. Hurts right side, middle back when I breath deep. Will continue to monitor but it is really uncomfortable at the moment. Ended up with flu-like bug - fever on Fri, gone by Sat.
