Mega Manic Midweek Duathlon, Castle Combe, 2 June

TeamBadTriby TeamBadTriJun 8th 2010
A beautiful evening at Castle Combe, very little wind and good conditions for a fast race. Several BAD Tri-ers raced, including top age-groupers Robyn Golding and Nicky Russell, and team member Matt Edwards (yours truly!)

This race is always bonkers from the gun, with a slight downhill start to the run and everyone vying for the lead and for good times. Not being the fastest on my toes, I held back just a little for the first section (a 2 mile run), visualising a smooth transition and a powerful bike ride! Picking up a few placings with a good steady T1, I was soon nailing off on the 10 mile, 5 lap bike course, reeling people in and having great fun zooming about. I was also focussed on cornering as hard as possible and holding the racing line, which a lot of others didn't seem to care about as they meandered about all over the place, losing time.

I finished the bike and got out of T2 with a DB Max racer right on my tail, but somehow I managed to kick away from him after a couple of minutes and put some good distance into him. I ran strongly (for me) for the remainder, finishing in 15th, a shade under 47 minutes with a good pb and having run strongly. Result!

Robyn Golding took first lady, Nicky Russell second so (as often is the case!) the BAD Tri ladies are dominating the field! Very well done both you guys.

Next duathlon is on July 7, hope to see you there!

Matt

BAD Tri has sponsored teams for both triathlon and cycling. The aim of these teams is to provide support for athletes within the club at high-performance age-group level and above. As a club we are grateful to those who represent us at this level and understand that it takes a great deal of time, money and dedication. In return for this support, triathletes are expected to represent the team and perform well at the races throughout the summer. Cyclists will be expected to race regularly and place well at local road races and/or support others in the team to do so.
