Newman dominates at Blaenafon

Another fantastic win for Mat, not quite sure what the official margin was but rumoured to be over 20 mins!

Race report by Matt Newman
The Blaenafon triathlon is a very small and friendly event, well organized and marshaled. Base at the Pontypool leisure centre the grounds of the surrounding park make for a scenic setting. After an 800 meter pool swim the main part of the event has to be the cycle leg. Touted as ¬'one of the hardest standard distance triathlons in the country¬' with some ¬'serious climbs¬' it definitely lived up to expectations. Taking over an hour and a half to complete the 28 mile bike I was extremely glad to see T2. Running out of transition my legs were surprisingly fresh though which set me up for a good run and the overall fastest time of the day.
If you fancy a really challenging bike, but with some extremely rough road surfaces to negotiate, this is a good event. The runs route is a really good one as well taking you along a cannel before steadily climbing up to a folly before making your way back into the park, most pleasant. The free Buffet during the presentations was also much appreciated and a nice touch.
BAD Tri has sponsored teams for both triathlon and cycling. The aim of these teams is to provide support for athletes within the club at high-performance age-group level and above. As a club we are grateful to those who represent us at this level and understand that it takes a great deal of time, money and dedication. In return for this support, triathletes are expected to represent the team and perform well at the races throughout the summer. Cyclists will be expected to race regularly and place well at local road races and/or support others in the team to do so.
