lofty goals
Hi...I am very new to triathlon, well actually to any sport. Did a try-a-tri in September 09 and caught the bug. Not sure at this point what the end goal is....just enjoying the ride!

Great Swim last night

So swim training has been suffering a little over the past three weeks. I have been super busy at work which has greatly reduced my focus and attention on my training. I have more missed sessions than those completed but last night I think I turned a corner.

I am a member of the local Tri club and we have coached pool session two nights a week. Just early in to the New Year I was put up into the next lane and have been struggling ever since. To go from leading the lane to lagging again is hard on the head and I must confess that on Monday night I returned to lane 1 again because I couldn't face another night of being at the back. When I got to the pool last night I argued with myself over which lane I would choose and my drive finally won and I entered lane 2.

We started off with a 150 warm up by the end of which I was exhausted and questioning my decision; however, once I got my heart rate under control again I talked myself through and stayed put. About the middle of the session we did a 25-50-75-100-75-50-25 set with 15 seconds of rest in between each group. As I was starting my last 25 at the back of the pack Coach was there and yelled at me to give it all I had and he ran along side on deck encouraging me all the way down the lane. When I got to the end he was clapping his hands and telling me I had done well. I guess I needed to hear that because the rest of the swim went so much better.

I was not discouraged at all and on one of the last sets, 6 x 25 with 1, 3, & 5 hard, I still had the energy to keep up. I left the pool feeling exhilarated! My swim tonight on my own will focus on technique rather than speed and endurance but I think I am back in the game!
