Goodbye 2012, Welcome 2013

borobhoyby borobhoyDec 29th 2012
Well, I don't know about you but I'm glad 2012 is almost done and dusted. I realised at the start of the year that I wasn't going anywhere in the Army, with only desk jobs to look forward to, so decided to leave and return to teaching. I got the first job I applied for and began the process towards leaving in August and teach maths at Nelson and Colne College. This meant living with my family full-time which was definitely a positive but a drastic pay-cut!

The main event of the year was the sudden death of my father in May which really knocked the stuffing out of me. It has meant I haven't really fully focused on anything all year - I simply made my way around the Outlaw Ironman as I hadn't trained for it.

A premature end to any training was made in September when I fractured a bone in my foot playing 5-a-side football at work. A little time off work but an end to the marathons I was due to run in October. Only trained about four times since.

So, I'm glad to see the end of 2012. I want to enter 2013 in a more positive frame of mind. I have a number of events already lined up (Brass Monkey Half Marathon, Outlaw Ironman, Great North Run) and am likely to enter others. My main focus is to PB at the Outlaw by breaking 12 hours (PB is 12:09) and possibly a sub-3:30 marathon in the spring or autumn. I plan on recording my training on here.
Redcar Sprint Triathlon – 31 Jul 11
borobhoyby borobhoy Jul 31st 2011
This was the first running of this race. It consists of a 750m sea swim and was my main reason for entering. With Ironman Wales in September having a sea swim and never having swum any sort of distance in the sea before I thought it might be a goo...
The Outlaw – 24 Jul 11
borobhoyby borobhoy Jul 24th 2011
This was my first A race of the season. I had been working towards this since the start of the year. I had completed the inaugural Outlaw in 2010 so knew almost the entire course (there was a slight change to the bike route) and as I had got my be...
Ripon Standard Distance – 9 Jul 11
borobhoyby borobhoy Jul 9th 2011
I have raced in the Ripon Tri for the last two years and it is usually the only standard distance race that I enter as my main focus is on longer distance races. Therefore I use this as a gauge of my overall fitness and a short test event before my...
Ironman UK 70.3 – 19 Jun 11
borobhoyby borobhoy Jun 19th 2011
The start of this race has changed to 0700hrs rather than ridiculously early 0600hrs start of two years ago. Having done this race previously I knew what to expect however I was still taken by surprise by the ferocity of the swim. The 1 lap triang...
Primera Swashbuckler Middle Distance Triathlon – 22 May 11
borobhoyby borobhoy May 22nd 2011
Something which I hadn’t realised when I signed up for this race at the end of 2010 was the ridiculously early start time. As the swim was in the tidal Beaulieu River, it meant a start time of 0515 hrs due to high tide being at 0430 hrs. I was stay...
Skipton Sprint Triathlon – 17 Apr 11
borobhoyby borobhoy Apr 17th 2011
This is a popular early season sprint triathlon in North Yorkshire. This is a pool-based 400m swim and with around 600 competitors the pool is in use from 0800 until around 1430. My start time was 1220 due to a predicted swim time of 8 minutes. Th...
