Nearly Recovered!

corinneeby corinneeSep 6th 2010
After nearly 12 weeks of recovery, I finally feel I am ready to resume triathlon training again. It has been 11 weeks since my heart surgery and I feel great! I am back running again (longest run 4 miles) and am steadily easing into gym sessions. Next week, I can get on the bike and in the pool! This will be the biggest relief, I have missed cycling and swimming SOOO much!

The experience of being forced to keep my exercise to walking has made me more determined to achieve more than I ever thought possible. Slow and steady is certainly going to be my motto as I'd like to get back to fitness in a safe and healthy way. Each milestone run, my first cycle and swim will put a big smile on my face. I am looking forward to getting back to my previous level of fitness and beyond.

To get back to focusing on my original long term plans for triathlon and a sub 4 hour marathon feels wonderful. Whilst I am not going to follow a strict training plan at the moment (instead I will listen to my body), the excitement of planning which race, where and when is more than I can say!

The old cliche, 'you don't know what you've got until it's gone' rings true for me at the moment. To put it another way, I will never take my fitness for granted again. Sure, I might moan during a hard session or when I ache all over but I will always appreciate that I am able to do the things I love.

How's getting back into training going? You seem to have been through an awful lot recently and i think you're being very sensible with the "listen to my body" mentality. How does it feel back out on the bike?

Anyway, good to see you're on the mend and happy training

Well, had all my tests and am now in the know about my new-found problem. I need surgery to repair a hole in my heart. So in terms of tri, I have to take it steady and see how things go. I can't, says the consultant, do the marathon in April. Very sa...
My Secret Motivation

Today I'm feeling much better. Had a good gym and swim session yesterday and slow 10 mile run this morning. Feels great to be out and doing something. Couldn't bear to let all my fitness go as a result of minor set-back. I always feel good when I get...
