Middle-aged, middle-weight, mother of 3 on mad marathon mission
Middle-aged, middle-weight, mother of 3 on mad marathon mission
When I started this blog, it was to track my progress from an occasional kayaker to taking on the Devizes to Westminster non stop 125 race. Little did I know that would start me on a long distance obsession which has resulted in my completing the 30th Marathon des Sables. It has been a strange and sometimes painful ... but always wonderfully challenging journey

This is my occasional account of a middle-age mother's attempt to take on things which are really quite beyond her.

Couldn't get down to the club yesterday so did a long walk with dogs and a daughter. Today I managed some intervals to Guildford and back - cold and in the sleet, but worked well. I love being out on the river and working hard, but need to build in more running and swimming to my schedule. If all goes well during the year, I want to have a go at a quadrathlon.

I think I over-did it in the gym the other day, as muscles in my back are still hurting and I have definitely tweaked a muscle in my side, from not sitting straight in the K2. If I'm going to stay injury-free through to the DW, I'm going to have to be more careful. I really hope I can stay on top of the training over the next two weeks.

I think I have found a good b oat down in Exeter, but need to decide by the tonight whether to go for it or not. Then I can sell my other K2 and hopefully build up a fund for my new K1.

Busy looking at races in the build-up, I think it's going to be a busy year!
