Baggy shorts, hairy legs and sick airYou know when there's something you should do, everyone says it's a good thing, but for some reason it just doesn't quite happen?
Well that's where I was a couple of weeks ago, well into the 'off-season' and wondering what to do instead of triathlon training...not wanting to get back into a training routine too soon..... 'Do something different', the books say. 'Go mountain biking' say my mtbing friends. 'Get down the track' say the cycling magazines. Both of these have been on my mind for a couple of years, but never happened - until now! So off I went - and they rock. A three hour beginners' session at Newport Velodrome (with the lovely people from Chippenham Wheelers) and a weekend in Afan later, and I'm physically somewhat bashed, but feel like a more complete cyclist and am mentally a new man. Amazing what you can achieve in such a short space of time. On the track or the trails, both will help road and triathlon performance whether that comes through handling, strength, technique, or balance. But more important than that is that they are both huge amounts of FUN! So having been enthused by new experiences, what's happening next... - Lanzarote on sunday for a week cycling with my fantastic wife Kat. Ironman course on Christmas day anyone? - Green Man Challenge recce runs the following week, plus NYE and some more mtb action - final two weekends of NLP practitioner also coming up - not one not two but THREE adventure races coming in January too! Hope we all get some fun snow to play in soon! | My next race

I thought I better get up to date (about 10 years late...) and start blogging! I'll be using this blog for various triathlon and coaching-related streams of consciousness...if you find something here of interest, get in touch! And if it's performance improvement you're after, we can talk about whether some 1-1 coaching might be of use to you in defining and achieving your goals.
