London 2013; Misty eyed optimist?
London 2013; Misty eyed optimist?
With the season over for 2012, sights are now set on the ITU World Champs in London in September 2013. Qualification race booked at the Dambuster in June, so 7 months of graft awaits!

Hangover!

So much for the Sunday session. In celebration of completing the 100 miles on Saturday we decided to hit the town of Benidorm! After a curry it was onto the strip and into a few bars. Do you know that scene in Star Wars where Luke Skywalker and Obi Wan Kinobi (forgive the spelling) go to that bar on Tattoine!!?!?! Well, times that by ten! I have never seen such an eclectic mix of weird, overweight, drunken, half-witted morons in all my life. At times I actually was in fear for my life, and that was just from some of the women! The final straw came when Scott was approached by a bloke who asked him if he wanted to go back to the hotel and "service" his wife whilst being watched (presumably by the bloke and not the other hotel guests, but I can't be sure)! Not pretty! Fairly soon after that we left the zoo and headed back to "civilisation", the sanctuary of the house and "normality"!

However, this excursion did result in a slight hangover, so training on Sunday was put on the back burner for the day. Went for a quiet lunch and stripped down the bike to pack and off to the airport for the journey home. The plane was packed to the gunnels, passengers included many of the mutants from the night before. I didn't see the bloke who wanted his wife "looked after" but couldn't help wondering if their night had a "happy ending"? It wasn't the most pleasant flight, but thankfully we were back at Gatwick in couple of hours without further incident and I was tucked up in bed by 03:30. Back to reality and work at 8 this morning so no time to train today. Will hit the pool in the morning and turbo tomorrow night, although the legs are still a bit sore from last week.

So another adventure comes to a close, I don't know how I am going to keep up the bike work through the winter in this UK weather? Have been spoiled in Spain, I guess the turbo will have to get a hammering! But not as much as I reckon that bloke's wife got on Saturday night!
100 Up

Did my first 100 mile ride today, so I am a little shabby now! The route for this adventure took us from Finestrat to Xalo via Callosa and the Mascaret Tunnels (photo below), a great ride through the fig groves and along the coast road. A quick co...
Rest day? No chance!

Up early again today and down to the beach in Benidorm for a swim. Did around 3.5km in the mill-pond like the sea. With the sun rising on the distant horizon it made the water surface seem like glass, a real joy to swim in. Also warmer than anyth...
Vuelta hell!

Great day today. Up early for a morning sea swim in Benidorm, did about 2.5km. The swell was a bit high but sea temperature was ok and I really enjoyed it. Starting to get to grips with my sighting / navigation issues! Back to the house and out o...

Ok, all is not lost. Today, you will be pleased to hear, the weather here on the Costa Blanca has been great. A bit windy at times but sunny and warm! Picture at the top of the blog taken in Calpe at around 4 o'clock after a late lunch in a beach ...
