With the season over for 2012, sights are now set on the ITU World Champs in London in September 2013. Qualification race booked at the Dambuster in June, so 7 months of graft awaits!

Frustrating Day

jamesrunchmanby jamesrunchmanOct 20th 2012
So today.................what can I say? I have spent most of it with my legs in compression tights with my feet up on the bed watching TV. Apart from the triathlon races I was lucky enough to witness it has been a very frustrating day. I have been on an enforced rest day in final prep for Monday. Not training makes for a grumpy James as some of you will undoubtedly be aware of, I feel I should be doing SOMETHING! So I am now in bed wishing the clock would accelerate to tomorrow so that I can do my final sessions before the big race.

This aside, Team GB have had a very successful day. Non Stanford won the female elite under 23 race, with Lucy Hall coming in 8th. In the male under 23 race Tom Bishop came 3rd after leading the race for the whole of the run leg until the last 100m, a great performance. Jody Stimpson, our only competitor in the female elites, came in 5th only a couple of seconds behind the race leaders and very narrowly missed out in a medal. That said, this was an excellent placing for her and she is chuffed to bits. We saw most of the racing and were in the stands when Non received her Gold. After this we bumped into Olympic athlete Lucy Hall, had a brief chat and snapped a picture (above). I know, I know, old enough to be her father etc! On route back to the hotel Dave and ended up behind Lucy and a couple of the others, we decided to duck into a shopping centre so that if she turned around she wouldn't think we were stalking her!!!!

Tomorrow Johnny Brownlee races for the World Championship Title. Team GB will be en masse around the course supporting. If successful, this will round off an incredible summer for British sport! Once this race is over it will be back the concentrating on my race. I will have completed my final (light) training session in the morning, bike racking at 3 o'clock, then back the hotel to WAIT until kick off at 0935 on Monday morning NZ time!

In short then - a quiet day for me, no social malfunctions, all good!

Hasta maƱana.

Hi James/Daddy!! An enforced rest day - I know only too well you'll be pacing that floor and will hate it nearly as much as Heathrow security! I'm having an enforced rest too Saturday night, glass of red and Strictly on the box and I reckon you could dance a lot better than Victoria Pendleton - Can't wait to see you in your big race, and hope the weather improves or becomes a tail wind at least...we are very proud and love you millions

Thanks team Runchman! To be honest, a glass of red sitting watching strictly in the warm instead of out in this hellish weather sounds appealing.
