O.rangeCannon becomes a pirate!!!!!!!
So I am officially a pirate, (ie a runners world forumite doing IMs).....

I am now 40+, but I aim to be active for as long as possible, so an ironman every year till i am a lot older sounds a ludicrous thing to aspire to.
I have been dabbling with triathlon for the last couple of years. I find it gives a purpose to the training / exercise I was previously doing. I have been mountain biking / cycle commuting for the last 15 years, running regularly for the last 3, and swimming badly for the last 2.....
I bumped into the pirates via the runners world magazine / forum, and they gave me the confidence to dare enter an IM.

Bastards!

Taper Madness

So tapering.......

In otherwords stop doing what I enjoy, so no more lunch runs, still try to swim, and do 4 bricks of decreasing intensity over the 2 week period.

Week 1 - a couple of swims, 2 bricks both of which were good. The second involved a 3hr run followed by a 45 min run. The run hurt. That did not do too much for my confidence....... My legs felt heavy and sluggish. Could have been the ride out, (uphill and into a headwind - 1hr 45 mins out, 1hr15 mins back!!) making my legs heavy.

Have not run long for 3-4 weeks, (slight hip niggle) so thats causing me to start to worry

Still not swam the distance yet, (gulp!!) but I did do a 3.2 k last week - about the longest swim ever..... and an hrs open water swimming.

so I should be feeling fresher......! but everything aches a little, feels heavy etc....

Tapering is hell
