O.rangeCannon's pirate journey!!!!!!!
O.rangeCannon's pirate journey!!!!!!!

So I'm now a pirate, (ie normal people who are inspired by the runners world forumites doing IMs)..... This involves drinking beer, buying lots of yellow kit, oh, and a race or 2 a year to give it an objective.

I bumped into the pirates via the runners world magazine / forum, and they gave me the confidence to dare enter an IM.

2010 IMDE - flat, Outlaw - flat
2011 IM Regensburg 2011 - flat, IMWales - hilly, oh so windy
2012 Lanza - hilly and windy
2013 - IM Lanza - the return :-)

Recovering from knee issues, (too many rugby injuries) so now the plan is to swim OK, be an Uber Biker, and just let the run take care of itself. Oh Well

Monthly Pirate Mentor Update - Phase Prep 3

Felt like I had a bit of an (unplanned) break over the last 4 weeks.

I have lots of excuses!
  • it was cold, wet and icy. I bought a turbo!
  • I had the odd xmas party, but too many xmas drinks evenings
  • I discovered I exercise a bit better when working, rather than when I have time off. Xmas played havoc with doing my normal stuff.....
  • My lovely 50m local lido has crap winter opening hours
  • My local council pool has crap xmas opening hours

Despite all the xmas disruption, still did 7hrs plus a week......
Got back on track after xmas - lots of turboing though due to the weather.
  • Long Bikes - one 2hr mtb, and lots of 90 min turbo sessions
  • Long Swims - nada
  • Long Runs - two 2 hr runs, one 1.5hr run.
  • Weights - oops
  • Yoga - also struggled due to xmas disruption

Next Month - Base 1

WhhohhooooO!!! time to start training rather than just exercising. Base 1.1 started at the beginning of this week and is going well.
I think my normal activity level was quite high before I bumped into this IM thing. I was probably doing 10hrs a week. That just feels normal, so I am looking at increasing this a little, but not going silly

  • Long Bikes - try and get out there again, (weather permitting). Target is 2-4 hr rides, on mtb if necessary. I'll flip to the turbo if the weather is rubbish
  • Swims - I've already been swimming this week!. Was gonna follow the don fink swimming plans, so the target is 2 per week at the moment.
  • Long Runs - My long run is at 2 hrs 15 this week. I was planning at capping this at 2:30. In the subsequent period I will then slowly increasing a second run from 1 hr to 90 mins, one 1.5hr run.
  • Weights - start this again after my xmas break
  • Yoga - Couses start again post xms.....disruption
  • Adventure racing - I have an 8hr advenbture race planed in feb - should be a good opportunity for a long easy days exercise
