O.rangeCannon's pirate journey!!!!!!!
O.rangeCannon's pirate journey!!!!!!!

So I'm now a pirate, (ie normal people who are inspired by the runners world forumites doing IMs)..... This involves drinking beer, buying lots of yellow kit, oh, and a race or 2 a year to give it an objective.

I bumped into the pirates via the runners world magazine / forum, and they gave me the confidence to dare enter an IM.

Bastards!

History
2010 IMDE - flat, Outlaw - flat
2011 IM Regensburg 2011 - flat, IMWales - hilly, oh so windy
2012 Lanza - hilly and windy
2013 - IM Lanza - the return :-)

Recovering from knee issues, (too many rugby injuries) so now the plan is to swim OK, be an Uber Biker, and just let the run take care of itself. Oh Well

My wifes B race of the season, so I entered as well......

Always thought this looked great on telly, less convinced in reality though, especially as a newbie friendly race.

Anyway, still had a cracking time, except for the nightclub opposite the travel lodge. So we rolled down to the start at about 5:30am after 3 hrs sleep!
This was just a C race for me. However, all thoughts of going easy disappeared as soon as I got out of the water!.
Swim. OK.
Bike Felt way too short! Felt quite comfortable at the HR I was going at, (about 150-155) Average speed was 36kph so there is no way I am getting near that on an IM.
Run. Felt strong again, and ran well. Course was a bit crowded though. Again no one really ran by me.

Not sure how I will get much faster over this distance in the future.
Again I seem to be leaving lots in the run tank....

total time 2:23 - really happy with that but not sure how I'll get much quicker. (I did 2:37 in the london Oly a year a two ago so definite improvement
