Physical TherapyYes, as the title suggests, this offseason has not gone as planned. 6 weeks ago was the last time I was able to lift weights. After my last weight session, my right shoulder was extra sore. It was worse the next day, but by Monday it was feeling a bit better. But for the next 4 weeks it didn't really get any better. So I went to the doctor, and he gave me 2 weeks of anti-inflamatory medicine and 8 sessions of physical therapy. Apparently I have a shoulder impingement (sp?). So I have to strengthen my rotator cuff and I should be good to go. I've already had 3 sessions over the last 2 weeks. I have been doing some exercises every night. And I am finally seeing some improvement, so that is good. But 2 of my 3 goals this offseason were improving my strength and improving my swimming technique. I haven't lifted weights for 6 weeks and I haven't swam for 4-5 weeks. The physical therapist said I shouldn't swim, and I assumed that I shouldn't lift either. It's also stopped my core exercises because they involve a lot of leaning on my arm. So needless to say, I have been doing a lot of running and biking on my new trainer. I really like my new trainer.
Hopefully I will be fully healed soon and back on track. On another note, I decided this year I will add a half marathon to my list of races. Then maybe a 1/2 ironman distance race in 2012. Treat your body well... For the last 2 years, I have been wearing knee braces. I don't have any knee problems yet, but there is a long history of knee problems/replacement in my family. I road it around the block I live on a few times just to get used to it. It was my first time on a tri bike, after all. After getting everything adjusted, I t... Next year My first race is done. Looking back I know there are a couple areas I need to work on. First is by biking. I need more speed. Second is swimming technique. Someday I would like to do an Ironman so I would really like to get my technique down. L... Earning the title I am a triathlete. As of about 10:45 on Sunday morning. I had never called myself that before because I felt I should complete a race before taking on the title. I even made (both) my goals. My stated goal was 3 hours. But the week before, I rea... |
