Time for a new challenge
Time for a new challenge
When I got out of college I found myself 50 pounds overweight and working 2 jobs, and working out was not a priority. Then one day it changed. No great inspiration other than my wife was losing weight, and I wanted to as well. I started by telling friends and family that I was going to run a 5k. Then I moved on to a 4 mile race, and last year a rather hilly and challenging 7 mile race (The Bix in Davenport, Iowa). But triathlons have always fascinated me. So that is my new challenge.

New Bike

Thanks to a day off, and fairly warm weather, I got to take the new bike out for a spin. I road it around the block I live on a few times just to get used to it. It was my first time on a tri bike, after all. After getting everything adjusted, I took it out on a 45 minute ride. I road on some hard surface trails, but I was continuously getting up out of the tuck position to check for traffic crossing roads. The other problem I had was with my helmet. It had a visor on it, which meant I really had to strain my neck to see. I took the visor off after the ride, but my back was still pretty sore. Overall, it's like upgrading from a sedan to a sports car. I am a little out of racing shape, but I could definitely feel the difference. Can't wait to take it out on a road ride...hopefully this weekend.
