Into the great unknown
Into the great unknown
As far is I can tell this triathlon business is 90% in the head. I'm really good at some bits, not so good at others, and mostly it's a great ever unknown. This is my experience of managing mind, and body, to be the best triathlete I can be.

Itching to turbo

ritatrisby ritatrisMar 7th 2013
This week is go, go, go! Fully recovered and SO pleased to be feeling good again.

Have had two good swims out of three, which is amazing for me (I¬'ll save my long swim mental block for another time), and the stability and strengthening exercises for my wonky right leg seem to be helping with the running injury related side of things.

And tonight is turbo night! Woop! I am itching to get on the turbo. Really. I love my turbo. I love riding on the road too, but something about the ability to work exactly to the effort level planned over the session really does something for the extremely retentive side of my brain. Three hour sessions in January were a whole new world of mental discipline and fun.

Tonight¬'s plan is an hour and a half, with longer hard efforts, and I¬'ve been looking forward to it for at least two days. This means essentially warm up and cool down plus 4 blocks of 10 minutes on, 5 minutes steady. Tuesday spin classes are for short crazy-hard-Chris-Hoy-falling-off-the-bike style workouts (yet to actually fall off ¬- must try harder!), club rides on Saturday are for 4 hours endurance, so Thursdays are for bringing the two together (hopefully). The aim is to work consistently across all 4, which I¬'m usually very good at but it is still a bit of a test run doing the first hard efforts back.

Ah dear, maybe I need to get out more.. Hopefully the lighter evenings will save me from such madness and mean I can look forward to going out for hill reps after work instead!
