Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Having taken part in several pool based sprint events since starting out in 2009, I wanted to celebrate turning 35 by completing the Vitruvian in 2011...with a long term goal of completing an Ironman by the time I'm 40. I'll keep track of the trials and tribulations here.

A running rebirth

Following my pulling out of the Vitruvian at the end of August I had a credit note for use against entry to the event in 2015, so I have duly sent in my application form - and this time I am determined not to mess things up !

I have also joined a group on Facebook #30Days30Runs which encourages the members to carry out some level of physical activity for 30 days in October. So far I have missed a couple of days, but I have also racked up more mileage than I have in a long time AND I have made a return to the local running club in Warminster - it has only been 3 years since my last outing. While I'm not convinced that I will be able to run every day I have set myself a target of 150km, or 5km a day on average which should be possible.

I have a business trip coming up to the USA, and knowing my love of all things food related (the fried chicken and BBQ ribs in Memphis are to die for...) I decided I had better take my running kit with me - I did the same thing on a recent trip to Germany and managed to run 25km in the week I was there and come back lighter than I went out despite eating out every night ! - and I've somehow managed to sign myself up for a local half marathon. If that doesn't make me eligible for a slap up meal afterwards I don't know what will. Luckily the forecast for Sunday is cooler than the current 31 degrees, so I'm hoping that I won't struggle too much. I shall keep you posted.
