Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Having taken part in several pool based sprint events since starting out in 2009, I wanted to celebrate turning 35 by completing the Vitruvian in 2011...with a long term goal of completing an Ironman by the time I'm 40. I'll keep track of the trials and tribulations here.

Brief update

My blog posts seem to be as frequent as my training sessions at the moment. I've been along to the local running club twice in the past three weeks and on both visits failed to complete the full run. The first time I managed 7.5km running with a chap in training for this year's London Marathon, the second time I managed a meagre 2km before slowing to a walk and returning to the start by the shortest possible route for a grand total of 3.3km !

The first run I can put down to being the first run for a number of months, but the second was down to setting off too fast and tiring myself out too quickly.

I keep looking at the race clock ticking down, and it currently says 31 weeks 4 days so I'm confident that if I can stick to a 30 week training plan I should be ok. The training plan I've looked at is for someone doing the full Ironman distance so I should be able to manage a half on that training.

The bike is finally out of the car - it's only been there since November - and if I'm feeling keen I may even attach it to the turbo trainer (if I can get into the garage) this evening to try and start shifting the excess weight that I have gained since getting lazy.

With any luck, the training should increase from now on. Watch this space !
