Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Having taken part in several pool based sprint events since starting out in 2009, I wanted to celebrate turning 35 by completing the Vitruvian in 2011...with a long term goal of completing an Ironman by the time I'm 40. I'll keep track of the trials and tribulations here.

Going downhill rapidly...

And by that I don't mean that I've been out on the bike !

I've managed to get myself off the sofa and down to the running club a couple of times in the past month and a bit, and on the first run I managed to complete the full route that was planned for the evening which amounted to a little over 10km - the furthest that I have run for months.

Two weeks later I tried again but my knees were giving me grief and I pulled up short having done 5km. I keep trying to tell myself that it's 5km more than people who weren't out running that evening, but it doesn't stop me getting a little depressed over my loss of fitness. The fact that I have put on about 10kg in a little over 12 months doesn't help things in the slightest, and I'm starting to think that I won't get under the 2 hour target that I have set myself for the Tewkesbury Half Marathon in May.

On a lighter note I have finally managed to change the tyres on the bike having initially punctured an inner tube while trying to do it, so I'm almost ready for next weekends Endura Lionheart sportive. My parents have said that they will come down to see us off and will then spend the day wandering around Longleat, having a bite of lunch and maybe tea as well...are they suggesting that I'm going to be slow ?

I will have to try and get the bike out this weekend to give it a shake down run and then persuade the good lady wife to bake some Banana Bread during the week to keep my brother and I going during the event.
