Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Having taken part in several pool based sprint events since starting out in 2009, I wanted to celebrate turning 35 by completing the Vitruvian in 2011...with a long term goal of completing an Ironman by the time I'm 40. I'll keep track of the trials and tribulations here.

Last minute change of plans

So I returned from a business trip in Germany late on Friday evening having indulged in all sorts of delicious fayre and a few glasses of Apfelwein (which tastes remarkably like Somerset cider) and the sum total of the weeks exercise was walking around Frankfurt before dinner on the Thursday evening, and a couple of walks from the car to the restaurant. Not particularly active...

So Saturday arrives, the day before the Cheltenham Half and I am in a bit of a quandry - part of me is looking forward to running again, the rest of me is worried that I am going to do myself an injury during the event or completely put myself off running and therefore jeopardise my long term goal of the "Ironman by 40". A few home truths from the good lady wife led to me deciding to not take part on Sunday, and while it meant I didn't have to get up at 6am to drive up there I did find myself wistfully looking at my watch as 9am came around.

So this morning I am not aching - well no more than normal anyway - and have now got to take another look at my plans for next year so that I can start from scratch and build up to some events properly. I will aim for a consistent and progressive training plan, but going by past experiences how succesful will I be ?
