Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Can I be an Ironman by 40 ?
Having taken part in several pool based sprint events since starting out in 2009, I wanted to celebrate turning 35 by completing the Vitruvian in 2011...with a long term goal of completing an Ironman by the time I'm 40. I'll keep track of the trials and tribulations here.

Ow...that hurts !

Who said that running - or exercise in general - was actually good for you ? If I ever find out who it was I shall give them a very stern talking to.

Why ?

Because I am in pain. I finally managed to pull my finger out and went out for a run...it wasn't fast, it wasn't far and to anyone watching it probably wasn't very pretty but at least I've actually done something at long last - it has only been 19 months since I regularly trained and in that time I think I have gone for two runs (one with Frome Tri Club and one on my own), swum a couple of times (once after the run with the tri club and once with my 4 year old son which you can't really call swimming plus a couple of swims on holiday in France) and the closest I have got to my bike is walking past it in the garage to get to the freezer !

So anyway I dusted off the trainers, dug the running gear out from the back of my bottom drawer and struggled to find a top that still fits without baring my rather flabby belly and hit the road for 35 minutes - it was 4 days later than I should have started on the RunKeeper programme but having missed a year and a half I shan't complain about missing another day. I had to resort to walking a few times but tried to keep moving forwards, but probably looked like someone who had completed a marathon rather than just 3 miles by the end of it.

My legs are complaining about it now, and the walk up and down the stairs to the office canteen wasn't pretty either but hopefully after a few more sessions and as the weight starts to drop off it will start to become easier.

Thanks for the heads up Dazza, that doesn't sound too promising for me then, although I don't suppose I train enough for serious injuries !
