Doctors Visit

tripyreneesby tripyreneesFeb 13th 2009
I went to Toulouse to see my surgeon for the 8 week check up. I told him it was all fine and that I had been running on the treadmill for 10 mins. He was a little shocked but said I am at the 4 month point of recovery if I was a normal person....not sure what he was getting at. I can now up the rides a little but he did say to leave running for another 4 weeks. I will be careful.

hi ian,

just a quick question, as a nerdy medical student just wondering what you're recovering from (if it's not a sore point, no pun intended).

It's not too sore now!! - I had my anterieur croisement ligament (spelling) replaced in my left knee with a piece of my hamstring tendon as my ACL had snapped totally after I slipped running down a trail a couple of years ago. After my ride the other day I can now really feel which part of the hamstring they removed - I have slowed a bit this week, it hurts.

i'm very nerdily very interested in that (if that makes any sense). i'm a medical student and wrote a paper on types of ACL replacement but mainly focusing on the rehabilitation and prospects for future grafts, i always wondered what the poor old hamstring would feel like after it sacrificed itself for the cruciate.
pretty amazing to see how much you've been doing after a pretty short (relatively speaking) space of time.
congrats and i hope the training keeps going well
