Holly's Tri mis-adventures
I'm a previously unsporty 20 something that has been trying very hard at tri for the last 6 years with minimal success! I love the sport to the extent that I helped my husband set up 'The Triathlon Shop' three years ago and have recently started working there full-time having given up a career in accountancy.

I'm lucky to be in the industry I love and often get to try out kit before it is released. When I do get to play with fun triathlon toys I tend to write a little review about my experiences. I also like to blog about my pathetic attempts to train and the fun I have in the summer racing and supporting all my friends at races.

Working away from home UPDATE

My worst fears have materialised! While away I wasnt able to exercise much due to a coldy/fluey illness. This in turn has led to a weight gain of 1.5kg over the week!! If only my illness had taken away my appetite...

Another observation - hotel pools are clearly not designed for swimming in. I attempted to do some laps in the pool at the hotel I was staying at and I nearly melted from how warm I got. Couldn't do more than 250m at a time before I had to cool myself down. Surely it would be better to have a cooler pool for the people who want to swim, and then those who just want to sit in warm water can go in the jacuzzi?!

I've bought a hardcore workout dvd set for next week away from home in the hope that even if I am not feeling well I can feebily attempt exercise in my own room. The woman on it is pretty annoying, but the workouts seem pretty tough so it should do some good.

Hi Twiggy, I'm currently on a business trip in Singapore and China, and while there was a pool in the hotel I used in Singapore I didn't bring my kit on this trip. I have packed it before and it just sat in the wardrobe gathering dust, although I did manage to use the outdoor pool when I was in California in November...strangely enough I was the only person in it !

Luckily (in some respects) I have travelled alone on this trip so I don't feel the need to sit around in a bar drinking beer and being sociable, but I do have a soft spot for food - whether Chinese or the western offerings near the hotel. Last time I was here I put on quite a bit of weight in the two weeks, this time I am hoping not to. I am also hoping to restart my training after an 18 month "rest" (= being far too lazy) when I return to the UK.

Maybe on my next trip I will pack a little lighter so that I don't worry about packing my workout gear...
