Holly's Tri mis-adventures
I'm a previously unsporty 20 something that has been trying very hard at tri for the last 6 years with minimal success! I love the sport to the extent that I helped my husband set up 'The Triathlon Shop' three years ago and have recently started working there full-time having given up a career in accountancy.

I'm lucky to be in the industry I love and often get to try out kit before it is released. When I do get to play with fun triathlon toys I tend to write a little review about my experiences. I also like to blog about my pathetic attempts to train and the fun I have in the summer racing and supporting all my friends at races.

An update on my year to date

twiggyby twiggyAug 26th 2014
It's been a really long time since my last post. I have good reason though - I promise! This year has been a completely crazy one leaving me little time for anything non work related. The general jist of what has gone on over the last 5 months is...

- In February I quit my job as an accountant to become a full-time member of staff at The Triathlon Shop

- In April I took part in Burnham Supersprint which was the first tri I had done since knee surgery and also the first time I had swam front crawl in a race!

- In May I went to support my husband Jon at Mallorca 70.3

- In May we also shut down the old shop at Temple Quay in a mad couple of days of no sleep. We traded for the final time on the Friday and handed the keys back on Monday morning. In between we had clear all stock to a storage unit, take down walls, repaint and clean the whole thing. The staff were simply amazing an worked non-stop all weekend, not to mention all the amazing customers, friends and family that came to help (and brought us cake!)

- In May we also spent an equally crazy 3 days stocking the new shop in Harbouside! I'm so proud of what we acheived in the new shop and I think it looks amazing! Here's a pic of the downstairs swim, tri and run department as well as the bike workshop. There's a whole stand alone bike shop upstairs too.

- In June we had our official opening day at the shop which was absolutely brilliant. We had swim sessions booked into our pool all day, injury prevention talks from Jenny our in house physio and a charity auction that raised £100s for a charity very close to myself and Jon.

- In July I jumped into the endless pool myself in order to have a coaching session with John of Tri Coaching. Earlier in the year I had volunteered to complete the swim leg of the London Triathlon (1.5km) as part of a relay - knowing full well that I was as yet unable to swim that distance front crawl! This session with John was essential to my preparation as I hadn't been able to get the time to train at all. You can see the footage we got from the session here:
- In July I also had my final exam for my BTEC Level 5 in Sports and Remedial Massage course. Luckily I passed the practical and theory so now all I need to do is finish off my coursework and I'm fully qualified with the best possible qualification in my field :)

- In July I took part in Adidas Thunder Run. Despite being in pain from the screws in my leg (which I am having taken out as soon as possible!), I thouroughly enjoyed run-walking 20km off road. If you have not done an event like this before I cannot recommend it highly enough. We did it in a team of 6 and it really did help me to enjoy running again after years of finding it really tough with my knee problems. Here's a pic of the team:

- In August I did the swim at the London tri and also watched Jon take part in the Olympic solo. Despite being really quite scared of the 1.5km swim (I had only managed 600m in training!), I was so happy to get through it in 40ish minutes. Not fast - but a great achievement for me. I'm definitely up for more open water swims next year! Here's my team about to cross the finish line:

So that's a very brief run down of what I have been up to in the months since my last post. Hopefully from now on I may have a little more time on my hands and the ability to post a little bit more!
