Holly's Tri mis-adventures
I'm a previously unsporty 20 something that has been trying very hard at tri for the last 6 years with minimal success! I love the sport to the extent that I helped my husband set up 'The Triathlon Shop' three years ago and have recently started working there full-time having given up a career in accountancy.

I'm lucky to be in the industry I love and often get to try out kit before it is released. When I do get to play with fun triathlon toys I tend to write a little review about my experiences. I also like to blog about my pathetic attempts to train and the fun I have in the summer racing and supporting all my friends at races.

Ironman 70.3 Mallorca

Ok..so first of all I should make it clear that I did not race Ironman 70.3 Mallorca myself. I was part of the TTS shop team support crew and was there for just 3 days to support my husband Jon, Shop mechanic Will (along with his other half Emma who was supposed to be racing but was unable due to injury), and team member Matt and his other half Sam.

I had a great 3 days and even managed to get a cheeky little 40km ride and a bit of a splash in the sea done myself, get k-tape burn marks, eat pretty much only pasta, see a german bum, get fed pineapple by a stranger and get splashed by pros. Pretty good really.

Race day started early - the team needed plenty of time to force down some food despite the nerves and head to transition to check that tyres hadnt burst in the soaring heat the day before (one chemists sign suggested it had reached 30 degrees).

The first off were the pros at 8am:

I had waded out into the sea to try and get the most pictures - which resulted in my getting splashed and having to retreat fast to avoid being trampled! I think it resulted in some decent images though.
The women were next followed by the 8:15 wave (M 25-29) which included my husband, then the M 30-34 which included Will (this wave was particularly splashy).
After this myself and Emma decided to head over to the swim exit to catch our other halves exiting the water. By the time we had got there all the pros were out but we bumped into Matt who was looking out for Sam before his wave at 9:10.

Once we knew everyone was out on the bike course myself and Emma dropped off all their stuff at the apartment, grabbed our bikes and cycled out to a good spot to see the pros come through. As this point the temperature wasnt too hot and there was decent cloud cover which I'm sure all the athletes on the bike course appreciated.

After we had been sat at that spot for a couple of hours it was off back to the beach to catch the run. I was so impressed by the ability of such a large number of people to run at pace off the bike. This was clearly a talented field!

The best part of the entire race was Will's exceptional attire/haircut/beard during the run.
