Holly's Tri mis-adventures
I'm a previously unsporty 20 something that has been trying very hard at tri for the last 6 years with minimal success! I love the sport to the extent that I helped my husband set up 'The Triathlon Shop' three years ago and have recently started working there full-time having given up a career in accountancy.

I'm lucky to be in the industry I love and often get to try out kit before it is released. When I do get to play with fun triathlon toys I tend to write a little review about my experiences. I also like to blog about my pathetic attempts to train and the fun I have in the summer racing and supporting all my friends at races.

Work and Weddings = burn out

twiggyby twiggyDec 1st 2012
When I started out training early this year, I never expected to be the kind of person who would be able to somehow train everyday. I did however think I would manage at least twice a week!

Life in the past 3 months has not allowed this. Firstly I have been suffering from knee and back problems, and under physios advice that meant not running for around a month. After that month was up I then managed to make myself so exhausted that I suffered from virus after virus for about a month. No only did that mean no training, I actually spent a whole week sleeping 12 hours a day. This is a common problem these days I think. Total burn-out. I had foolishly managed to combine a stressful full-time job, with running a shop in evenings and weekends, single handedly fitting out a new kitchen and planning my wedding all at the same time. Something was always going to give.

Then I got married and went on honeymoon which naturally meant no harder training than a few hundred meters in the warm malacca straits everyday. Although this was nice, it was not very productive. It did somewhat help to recharge the batteries though.
Work and Weddings = burn out
So I am now in the position where my training has not happened the way I would have liked it to for 3 months. Somehow I have managed to not ride a bike in all this time, despite having bought myself a lovely new steed about a month ago. The weather hasnt helped matters either. I have now only 3 weeks until a week in Mallorca with elites and world championship racing friends and colleagues (see some of them in the pic). How I am going to keep up I have no idea!

Oh, and I now have a cold.

How people manage to combine busy lifestyles with training I do not know. Any ideas please share!

Oh no, sounds like you have the luck of one of my friends who has the same track record as you, although she's not married yet! How did Mallorca go???

I'm no good either - I tend to be able to plod through though, but that's the problem - 2013 is all about getting out of the plod!!
