Can anyone recommend a HRM - I guess like everyone I would like something that does all disciplines?

I use the Garmin range of HRM with GPS, but if you want one that you can use for swimming then I think the Suunto range are the only ones that will work as a HRM whilst swimming.

The ANT+ technology in the Garmins and other watches won't work underwater...Although the other metrics, especially the swimming metrics from the Garmin 910XT are really good. So, if you want a GPS / HRM / Training metrics device for swimming, biking and running then I'd recommend the Garmins with the one caveat that they won't give you HR data whilst swimming.

If you particularly want HR data whilst swimming then take a look at the Suunto's

Hope that helps.

No problem... Let us know what you end up getting and how it works out.

I use garmin as well, an old forerunner 305. Don't bother with HR while swimming. Probably a good thing thinking about it.......

I have been using a 310XT for a couple of years now. It is a great multi sport HRM. It can't measure heart rate under water. It has fulfilled my requirements fully for short and long distance triathlon.

I don't know the pricing at the moment but expect it to be a bit lower than earlier because of the launch of the 910XT.

I have seen people swim with a Garmin 305. They just put it in a bag and placed it in the swim cap facing up. It seem to work ok...

I used to use the 305 under my swimming hat... Although I did kill two of them like that!

My 910XT is about to go back to Garmin for a 2nd time as well as the altimeter has stopped working again... Other than tat they are great.

Thanks everyone - I have come to the conclusion that perceived effort is the best way to go for swimming but maybe a 310XT will work on everything else.Currently using a pretty old and basic polar device for the bike and run which is great at the moment although it does not give all the downloadable stuff. I'll see how I go and upgrade as necessary. Again thanks to everyone for taking the time to contribute.
