Hi all

Only been here a week and finding the site very useful indeed.

Never done a Triathlon before but planning for one next year. Need to get my basic fitness up to scratch and then will be asking for loads of help and advice.

I am a keen swimmer, recreational cyclist but not a runner so I am going to be playing to my strengths to get fitter and then start a running programme.

All the best
Lieann

:)

Hey Lieann, welcome! Sounds like a good plan, better to build it up nicely than go off too hard and get injured (speaking from experience!) :-)

Hi, I'm new to triathlon as well and just been to my first swim session tonight. Loved it, though I'm not sure how I'm going to sleep tonight because I'm buzzing. Great site looking forward to exploring more of it.

Hi Liz, we're glad you like the site :o) Now you've been to one swim session you can build it into a regular session.
Hope it goes well! Sarah

I have a newbie question hope that's OK? Should I train in elastic laces, the ones that mean you don't need to lace your shoes up or just use them in races?

Hi Liz, Once the laces are in most people train and race in them. It's quite a hassle to keep changing them over. If you keep them in you can also be more sure that you have them at the correct tension. Do a few short runs first to check this out, you don't want to risk injuring yourself by having then too tight or too slack. I've heard that the Xtenex sports laces are supposed to be quite good but I've not tried them.

Hi all,
I'm testing out a few training logs, and TriBlogs seems great! I haven't purchased yet, but will most likely do so today. Does this site work well with a Garmin Swim watch? I'm pleasantly surprised by how smooth this interface is compared to TrainingPeaks. Well done!

Hi dkatz! Welcome, really glad that you like the site and thanks for your message. It does work well with Garmin watches but we've not added the extra metrics that you get with the swim version yet I'm afraid. I've just added it to our project/request list though as I think this watch might be a popular Xmas present for triathletes this year :-) We have separate pool mate and land only Garmin watches. How are you finding the Garmin Swim watch?

It's a great watch. It's so much easier now that I can focus more on my stroke and not how many lengths/laps I've done. I use it mostly to track total yardage, pacing, and rest time. The added benefit is efficiency with stroke rate and SWOLF score. The best interface I've seen so far for displaying the stats is GarminConnect - but it's lacking.

Another Newbie: Hi all - I've been trawling the net for diaries and journals and training plans - and here they all are in one place - sweet! And I'm really impressed with the amount of expert knowledge that seems to be knocking about in the forums and blogs. The lady at Tri-Running in Northampton has fitted me with the correct type of running shoes, I have removed the basket from the front of my bike and plaited the tassles on the handlebars (for aerodynamic reasons) so I'm ready to go.I have signed up for the Little piglet sprint this coming June after being told that you don't actually have to sprint. More motivation for this than anything since I gave up rugby - !

Good luck with the little pig sprint, getting a race in your diary certainly helps get you motivated!
