Brutal Triple Iron Triathlon 2015!

Q. What’s the best way to recover from injury?
A. Enter the Brutal Triple Ironman Triathlon !

So that’s what I did. I had the misfortune back at the beginning of August to Rupture my left calf. This was quite a severe rupture and caused a massive amount of pain, swelling, bruising and general unpleasantness. You would think that I had done this with some ultra-long training run. Well not at all. It was done after sitting around on a sun bed for around 2 hours, being dehydrated and then taking an acrobatic leap from the side of a swimming pool to try and land on a surf board, whilst playing with my children. Sadly I did not make it as far as the surf board after the calf popped and instead hit the water like a bloated pig. I ended up having too much time to think and settled for a Triple Ironman.

Recovery has been slow, partly down to me not listening to the Physiotherapist and more importantly my wife. Too much too soon and I have set myself back 2-3 weeks. Lesson Learnt!

So with recovery on the agenda I have decided to take a crack at Brutal Events Brutal Triple Ironman Triathlon set in the beautiful stunning Snowdonia National Park in September 2015. A continuous race starting in Lake Pardarn, LLanberis, for a quick dip of 7.2 miles in fairly cold waters. Followed by 350 miles of cycling around the foothills of Mount Snowdon with just over 32000 feet of ascent. Concluding with an 80 mile run starting with the first 10 miles up to the summit of Snowdon and back down to 13 challenging laps around the Lake with over 9000 feet of ascent. The cut off for this event is 64 hours. It’s safe to say that this will be a hard day at the office, two or three days at the office!

I am doing this to raise vital funds for three causes close to my heart. The Birmingham Children’s Hospital, The Taunton Opportunity Group and The Child Bereavement Charity. All three of these charities close to my heart and require vital funds to help kids in various ways.

I have a few build up races prior to the Brutal which you can check out on the Virginmoneygiving link.

I am being supported by BetterYou, Jackoatbar, Phoenix Fitness and Compressport and am very grateful of their support.
