2013 Triathlon Season - Write off!

katywalkerby katywalkerMay 28th 2013
I look back on my first blog which I posted on 29 October 2012 and recall the enthusiasm and determination that I felt at the time┬....

For those who have followed my blog to day (and surprisingly, there┬'s been quite a few ┬- I┬'m shocked!) you┬'ll remember that I started with a single mission, which was to train smart, stay focussed and see if I was ┬'cut out┬' for this triathlon malarkey┬...not necessarily to be great, but to see if I could apply myself and make progress and improve.

┬...I did the swim analysis programme and made good progress on the swim, improving technique and making marginal gains on my swim times┬...

┬...I┬'ve knocked 8/9mins off my half marathon pb thus far and still looking to progress further ┬- still aiming on going sub 1:45 by the end of the year┬...

┬...I have some good cycling miles in my legs and whilst cycling is my biggest area for improvement still, I am comfortable with distance, if not with speed! My downhill┬'s are certainly getting a little better and am more confident of the bike generally┬...

But as for triathlon┬...EPIC FAIL!!

Less than a year on from when I started this blog, I┬'ve decided to write-off the 2013 triathlon season! Breast surgery in April meant having had to pull out of the Majorca 70.3 in May and with confirmation of further surgery in June, I now face having to pull out of Bristol Harbour Tri in June as well┬... Writing off this season, focussing on running and aiming for 2014, seems the best idea.

So the 2013 events list NOW looks like this:

Swanage Traithlon (relay bike leg) - 11 August
Burnham Beeches 1/2 Marathon - 17 August
Club Champs - 21 August
BTS Captains Challenge - 21 September
Bournemouth 1/2 Marathon - 6 October
Poppy 1/2 Mara - 10 Nov

Hi Katy, Sorry to hear about your tri season, I know that this must have been disappointing for you as we all invest so much in training for events. Sometimes though it is the best thing to step back and take a deep breath. Sounds like you have already made a number of significant improvements in all disciplines and you can build on these for next season to come back even stronger. Good luck with that 1.45 half marathon target!
