Michelle's IronPerson 70.3
Michelle's IronPerson 70.3
I decide to do a Half Ironman. (We really ought to call it a Half Ironperson, really.... I mean c'mon people! It's 2009 here!)

The Half Ironman adds up to 70.3 miles in total:

1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim
56-mile (90 km) bike ride
13.1-mile (21.1 km) run

I started taking long-distance biking seriously about 2 or 3 years ago, but only did my first roadie ride this summer in June 2009. As for swimming, I started taking lessons in January 2009 and only then did I learn the front crawl for the first time. And running? Psssshhh... who runs anyway? Not me.

Needless to say, I've got a long way to go and a lot of training ahead of me.

Re-Motivated!

As a grad student, this time of year can be very hectic -- final exam marking, papers, and finishing up all those projects. With the stress of school and the holidays lurking ahead, I let myself get out of routine (already!).

But the past week I've been building a detailed 24-week plan and today I signed up for all my winter classes: master's swim, squash and ballet.

With the new plan, I'm ready to hit the ground running in January (when the 24-week plan begins). From now until then, I have planned out some short, easily-achievable workouts to keep me going.

Hip-hip-hooray for re-motivation!!!
Bicep Blues

Ok, I admit it. I over-trained. I overworked that little bicep... First week on my new weight training plan and I put myself out of all training for 4 days. My bicep was so sore, that I couldn't even swim or bike! I even had to skip out on bal...
Six Months of Iron-Pumping
michelle27by michelle27 Nov 13th 2009
So with the help of a few books, I've figured out a new 6-month weight training program. The first micro-cycle is 3 weeks and focuses on Muscular Endurance (55% 1RM; 3 sets; 20 reps). My featured exercises are: DAY 1 (LEGS, BICEP, BACK) S...
The Spins
michelle27by michelle27 Oct 29th 2009
I'm getting back into action slowly, one sport at a time. I'm already back to 2-3 spin workouts a week. Next comes the swimming. And last but not least, the run... Leave it to the UofT Tri Club to keep this week's spin classes exciting! On Mond...
Never Have I Ever...
michelle27by michelle27 Oct 23rd 2009
Never have I ever had to hold back. Never have I ever had fitness that I should not use. After a summer of training, I ended up in the hospital twice this autumn with colon problems. I'm on my way to recovery but I still need to take it easy. And ...
