So I'm now a pirate, (ie normal people who are inspired by the runners world forumites doing IMs)..... This involves drinking beer, buying lots of yellow kit, oh, and a race or 2 a year to give it an objective.

I bumped into the pirates via the runners world magazine / forum, and they gave me the confidence to dare enter an IM.


2010 IMDE - flat, Outlaw - flat
2011 IM Regensburg 2011 - flat, IMWales - hilly, oh so windy
2012 Lanza - hilly and windy
2013 - IM Lanza - the return :-)

Recovering from knee issues, (too many rugby injuries) so now the plan is to swim OK, be an Uber Biker, and just let the run take care of itself. Oh Well

End of season thoughts / outline plan for 2011

The plan was to train for an Ironman, and hopefully survive it in good form.
Along the way I was to become a fully fledged pirate, (see runners world form / pirate ship of fools website)

The reality has surpassed my expectations!

Swashbuckler 1/2 IM - 5:05
IMDE - 11:38
Outlaw - 10:54
Vitruvian 1/2 IM - 4:54

Oh and I know lots or pirates, and now wear the yellow with pride.

Swim - I have consistently been about approx 60% in the swim, (ie rubbish). LOts of room for improvement
Bike - I have been about 30% on the bike, I am surprised on this as I think I am a biker. Either I am not as good as think, or I am going easy, (or correct...)
Run - I have been in the top 10 - 20%. This surprises me as I have only been running a few years. I think I can go a lot faster here.
I suspect its that I have got LOTS left from the bike, as I am not realy woking as hard as others there.

So the training plan will be concentrate on swimming, increase bike fitness, and consolidate the run.

So I cannot wait for next year, but also realise my A race is not till august so prep does not start till Christmas.
In the mean time I'll get a basic week sorted to keep things ticking over to a level.
I have a few adventure races planned, the odd sportive etc.

I'll actually do some weights this year.
I am going to get some swim training.

The outline for next year is
May - Swashbuclkler 1/2 IM (C)
June - Eastnor 1/2 IM (B)
July - Outlaw Relay (C)
August - IM Regensburg (A) (aim ..... 10:30??)
Sept - Vitruvian 1/2 IM (B)
Sept - Challenge Henley, (if its on) (A)

I want to run 3:30 IM marathon
I want to bike 5:30 for the IM bike.
I want to swim 1:10.

The other major event this year is that the missus is dong IMR as well - She will be chasing cut off, but I know she can do it.
This means lots of shared long bikes this year, with me on a MTB and her on her road bike. I'l probably also have to get out separately as well most weekends. This is going to be a challenge

Lots of sportives / rides planned in the autumn, followed by MTBs over winter.
