I decided to quit Smoking and Took up Triathlon in 2005 as a reason to stay fit, 10 years on I've spent money I've saved on lycra, bikes and pointy hats

Leybourne Sat Sprint

trilifedbby trilifedbJun 18th 2011
This was another PB for me - then again I'd never done this distance(750m/20k/5k) at Leybourne b4, so anytime was gonna be a PB !!

Turned up to what was a big field (76 starters) at Leybourne, biggest in my time of going (last 5 years or so) and everyone i spoke to really enjoyed it. Now I'm involved with www.teamoutrageous.com who organise it, it's great and for £25 it's a great no frills event.

The swim was good with a bit of biff about, which i enjoyed rather then endured for 1st time ever, prob as I swim there so often so no nerves! I got out the water in 13:10, which is a PB for 750 for me and then onto bike at 0:14:13 (16th fastest swim/t1 split).

I was riding my Road Bike (Boardman Carbon Team) with my deep rim Planet X wheels, as my Planet X Stealth was still in the shop having the tribars changed (the gear shifters were stuck!) I didn't have a computer that worked and it felt weird racing on a road bike. I lost time going up sundridge hill and could't make up for it on way back down as there was a lorry in the way - grrr. I got back in 0:32:27(10th fastest bike split)

t2 seemed to take me ages to get shoes on and the 2 laps run were more a plod than a sprint (I can' t seem to get anywhere near my best speed on runs at the mo - maybe need to run in training !) I did t2/run in 0:23:25 (31st fastest t2/run split) and despite a sprint finish to try and get under 1:10 I finished in 13th place at 1:10:05.

Thouroughly enjoyed myself and looking forward to next midweek race over there on 6th july.

Need to do some running training & losing a few lbs wouldn't hurt !!
